The organization seeks to expand its support for entities committed to racial, economic, and reproductive justice.
(San Juan, Puerto Rico – November 27, 2024) To expand its financial support and technical assistance to community-based organizations, the Fundación de Mujeres en Puerto Rico (FMnPR) will join the global Giving Tuesday movement this coming Tuesday, December 3, with the “Investment That Transforms ” campaign. The goal is to raise funds to strengthen the foundation’s philanthropic vision.
Since its founding in 2019, this feminist organization has granted over $1,900,000 in operational funds to women-led community entities committed to racial, economic, and reproductive justice in Puerto Rico.
“Raising new funds will allow us to strengthen our commitment to creating just and comprehensive economic relationships with women and their community bases, who are the ones that know first-hand the needs of the most vulnerable populations. Since our inception, we have focused on supporting the frontline defense that has historically taken on the task of creating well-being without the necessary financial support. Through this new campaign, we are again investing in transforming lives,” highlighted Verónica Colón Rosario, executive director of FMnPR.
The FMnPR has been recognized for its strategic support of communities that, despite their essential work for generations, receive limited funding. Additionally, it has worked from an urgent agenda to address the needs of populations impacted by inequality, violence, and discrimination.
“In 2024, we have allocated over $600,000 in grants, strengthening the operation and technical capacity of women-led non-profit organizations. Some of these entities have received this funding that supports the transformative work they do for their communities for the first time,” Colón Rosario added.
Some of the beneficiary organizations included: Casa Juan Colón, Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, La Sombrilla Cuir, Mujeres de Islas, SIEMPRE VIVAS-RUM, Todas PR-Equilátera, Proyecto Matria, the Gender Equity Observatory of Puerto Rico, and Colectivo Ilé. Furthermore, since 2022 and 2023, the FMnPR has supported the organizations Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses and A Flor de Piel, which received operational funds for the first time to strengthen their historic efforts in favor of women’s and girls’ rights.
Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses is an intergenerational organization that has fought for demilitarization, social justice, and dignified living for communities in Vieques. A Flor de Piel, for its part, leads efforts aimed at incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women to provide them with material and human resources that enable them to redefine their lives with greater well-being and a better quality of life.
Colón Rosario also emphasized the relevance of philanthropy in the fight for equity and against inequalities.
The FMnPR envisions, through its philanthropic principles, a Puerto Rico with equity committed to social justice where women, girls, and gender-fluid individuals are protagonists and can fully develop from their freedom throughout their lives.
